Northeastern U.S. Under the Gun for Heavy Rain and Wind
Christy Bowen
5 hours agoIt will feel more like the spring season than the holidays in the Northeast as a potent storm system delivers heavy rain, high winds, and warmer temperatures by the end of the week. Here is a look at what is coming to this part of the country in the coming days.
Northeast Prepares for Flooding Rainfall and Volatile Winds
While the northeastern U.S. will enjoy some relief from the cold, the change in the weather pattern will also come with flooding rainfall and windy conditions. The same weather maker that triggered the widespread flooding and wind event in the Pacific Northwest is making its way across the country, set to impact the Northeast by the end of the work week.
The storm will unleash gusty winds as it tracks from coast to coast. Warmer temperatures will mean that most of the moisture will fall as rain rather than snow. However, colder temperatures on the back side of the storm could generate snow and ice for a short time.
A large swath of the Ohio Valley and the Northeast will experience the warmest temperatures in weeks ahead of the storm. The rising mercury will melt most of the snow cover in this part of the country. You can expect widespread highs in the 40s and 50s throughout most of the Midwest and the Northeast. The mercury may hit the low 60s in some areas of the Ohio Valley and the mid-Atlantic. The temperatures will likely feel even warmer due to the unseasonably cold weather that has marked the first half of December.
